Some error-prone grammar of GMAT summarized by myself

Grammar Notes

1. The collocation of the proximity principle of predicate verbs: or, either...or..., neither...nor...., not only..., but also...

2. When Not only is at the beginning of a sentence, its leading clause should be reversed.

3.Each and every are placed before the subject, and the subject is singular. (When Each is used as an apposition and Each of+S., the subject is unlimited, such as They each...)

4. What is the stem of the sentence, the main verb should correspond, and the adverbial modification of doing as the adverbial modifier expresses the auxiliary meaning.

5.Even as... is the meaning of "right, just", a little at the same time.

6. One’s doing sth. is not as effective as sb. do sth.

7. More can be used as an adverb to express the degree, as an adjective to express the quantity; greater as an adjective to express a greater number of... or degree.

8.Although it must be followed by a complete sentence, there is no saying although doing.

9.X will do sth. only if Y does sth. Else.

10.Without A or B, it must be or, because without has a negative meaning.

11.Encourage sb. to do sth. and thereby (to) do sth. The following to can be omitted.

12.A is doing sth. and doing sth. The verb be can be omitted from the back; but A continues to do sth. and to do sth. The back to is cannot be omitted.

13.If the introductory clause uses the passive voice, then the main clause should also use the passive voice; and vice versa.

14. Sb. has more than twice as A as sb. has B. A>2B = A is (are) more than twice as many as B.

15. Attempt to do sth./attempt sth./an attempt at (doing) sth./an attempt to do sth.

16.Therefore is an adverb and therefore cannot lead a sentence.

17.Sth’s/sb’s abibity to do sth. (best structure)/ability of sb. to do sth. Generally, sb’s capability to do is not used. To compare wordy, you can use be able to do or be capable of doing sth. instead.

18.Require sb to do sth./ require (of sb) that + subjunctive mood, should can be omitted.

19. Prohibit sth./from doing sth./sb. from doing sth. No prohibit sb from sth. No prohibit that...

20.According to means according to, according to, in accordance with what is consistent with.

21.But for A/If it were not A/If it had not been for A/Were it not for A/Without A, S should/would/could/might have done sth. Or do sth. Subjunctive conditional, see Whether it is contrary to the past facts, then decide to use the present perfect tense or the past tense.

22.Just as A do sth., so B do sth. Be sure to add SO!

23.A do sth. as well as doing sth.

24. A have/has done sth. while doing sth. This structure is ok, and A is doing x while doing y.

25. With the intent of doing sth. And with the intention of doing sth.

26.Be known to do and be known to have done, the former action occurs at the same time, the latter action has occurred. 27.Date to...ago, how many years ago; Date at...old, how many years.

27.Compared to/with can be regarded as compared with anything in GMAT, and can only be used in passive form, sth be compared to.
